Laura Isserow

Laura Isserow is a Founder and CEO of Calorint. She is a graduate of Boston College, Carroll School of Management. Laura is a licensed CPA with a background in public accounting at Coopers & Lybrand. Laura earned an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She worked in investment banking. Laura also has worked as the Senior Director of Mergers and Integration at Dun and Bradstreet. 

Jonathan Isserow

Dr. Jonathan Isserow is a Founder of Calorint. He is a medical doctor. Jonathan trained in radiology completing his residency and fellowship at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael Poisel

Michael Poisel is the Executive Director of PCI Ventures, Penn’s internal venture studio, which assists faculty researchers in the creation and building of companies around their innovative technologies. He and his team also provide incubation services at Penn’s incubator, The Pennovation Center. As part of these programs, he has participated in the founding of over 275 companies, which have gone on to raise over $900 million in funding. Prior to Penn, Michael made investments for NewSpring Capital, Apax Partners and GE Capital spanning more than ten years in private equity. He began his career in manufacturing operations for General Electric/Lockheed Martin and participated in the successful completion of several commercial and government satellite programs. Michael graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, holds an M.S. in Systems Engineering from The Moore School of Engineering of the University of Pennsylvania, and has an M.B.A. in finance and entrepreneurial management from The Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. 

Simon Pimstone

Dr. Simon Pimstone has over 25 years of experience in the life sciences, drug development and entrepreneurship. He brings this passion and expertise to his current role as CEO of XYON, an industry leading brand focused on developing sophisticated and effective solutions for hair loss.

He has held various management, board, and advisory roles at companies including Xenon Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: XENE), Eupraxia Pharmaceuticals (TSX: EPRX), Alpha9 Oncology and Kokua Pharmaceuticals.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Pimstone has served on the boards of several industry and healthcare associations. He was former chair of LifeSciences BC and the Providence Healthcare Research Trust, as well as being former vice-chair of BIOTECanada. He has also previously chaired the Canadian federal governmentState of Nation Report.

Dr. Pimstone serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of General Internal Medicine and Associate Member, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of British Columbia.  He also serves as faculty on the Providence Health Care Heart and Lung Institute.

Daniel Sessler

Dr. Sessler attended medical school at Columbia University, and subsequently completed pediatric and anesthesia residencies at the University of California, Los Angeles. After stints as professor at UCSF and vice dean at the University of Louisville, he is currently Professor and Michael Cudahy Chair of Outcomes Research at the Cleveland Clinic. In September 2024 he will become Vice-president for Clinical and Outcomes Research at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.

Dr. Sessler published a book on therapeutic hypothermia, more than 970 full research papers including three-dozen in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, and JAMA and more than 50 editorials. More than 125 of his papers were accompanied by editorials, and more than 30 were cover articles for major anesthesia journals since 2010. Dr. Sessler’s papers have been cited more than 70,000 times in peer-reviewed articles per Scopus — making him the world’s most published and cited perioperative investigator. He is among the top 0.01% of cited scientists in any field, with an H Index of 126.

Dr. Sessler has been a principal or co-investigator on grants totaling $100 million. He founded and directs the Outcomes Research Consortium. The Consortium is the world’s largest clinical anesthesia research group, and publishes a full paper every other day for a total of more than 2,000 full papers. He was an editor of Anesthesiology for 9 years and is now Senior Editor for Trials at the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia. He served as a director for the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) for 8 years. He has given invited lectures at more than 500 institutions. Dr. Sessler’s awards include a Fulbright Fellowship and the American Society of Anesthesiologists Excellence in Research prize.
